Just to clarify, before anyone gets confused, Town Pigeons (Feral Pigeons) are descendents of Rock Pigeons (also known as Rock Doves) which were domesticated up to 2000 years ago, and have interbred with Stock Doves at times. Many were used as Carrier Pigeons, some have been, and still are, used for racing and over the centuries many have escaped and formed Feral populations in towns and cities throughout the world. All these are classified as Columba livia, as are the true Rock Pigeons which still live wild on isolated cliffs of the western coasts of Europe, especially Portugal and the UK.

Literally "Dove of City", Town Pigeon or Feral Pigeon, Columba livia
