Common names can sometimes be misleading; I've tripped up on that a couple of times in the last couple of weeks. I'd suggest that this is a speckled pigeon (Columba guinea) and not a rock pigeon (Columba livia). See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speckled_Pi... for more information. Nice sighting and very nice photo! You live in a part of the world that someday I'd like to visit.
