A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Libellula quadrimaculata
This dragonfly is common throughout the northern hemisphere. In North America it is called the Four-spotted Skimmer. In other areas, it may be called the Four-spotted Chaser. This dragonfly is predominately reddish brown with a black tip on the abdomen.
Ponds and wetlands as nymphs, but I often find them in upland areas as non-breeding adults. Yesterday, I found swarms of this dragonfly in sunny areas along a dirt road that ran through a forest.
