Definetly a Red-headed Woodpecker. You are lucky. Thanks for the story also.

Thank you. We had a dead tree that I would not let anyone but God take down that housed many generations of these woodpeckers. Finally if cracked 6' up and when I thought babies were gone the tree was taken down. Found flying squirrels in it. Saved tree, squirrels moved on :o(
