Pearl crescent

Phyciodes tharos

Description:

Its top side is orange with black bordering.

Habitat:

North America with the exception of the West Coast.

Notes:

This specimen was viewed while hiking along the Sims Trail just NE of the Cedar Creek Bridge in Congaree National Park, South Carolina. As it was about twelve feet off the trail, I used a 300mm telephoto lens on a tripod, as opposed to a macro lens.
