Russell's Viper

Daboia russelii

Description:

Body massive, cylindrical, narrowing at both ends, head flat, triangular with short snout. Large gold flecked eyes with vertical pupil and large open nostrils. Ground colour brown with three series of large ovate spots, one vertibral and two coastal. Spots brown at center and margined successively by black and white or buff. Belly white, whitish or yellowish.

Habitat:

Normally sluggish and does not strike readily unless irritated. Usually it contents itself with hissing, the volume exceeding of any other snake. When striking, it hurtles itself forward and may even leave the ground. largely nocturnal, its movements are slow never exceeding a crawl and if disturbed often prefers to maintains its ground angrily hissing and heaving sides. Feeds largely on rodents.

You are a true lover of nature! Hope that youngsters like you and others will help India get back its lost treasures!! I was just reading an article about
Depression and anxiety and its relation to nature. Nature has an antidepressant effect and its loss does not help much!

deadly but useful. its main food is rodent and rodents account for 30-40 % loss in crop. so by eating the rodents it is actually doing a great work towards mankind..
