I think it could be Commiphora. I never thought of them as trees. I'm used to seeing them in the tropical greenhouse at work at Bonsai like specimens but they do have the peeling bark. I haven't seen any so far online with bright green underneath such as this. Any idea on a species?

the Malagasy call these types of trees "vazaha trees" because they lose their skin as white men who had a sunburn and peeling, but I think it's a Commiphora ....?

Oh this might not be madre de cacao.. That has smooth trunk.. I'm sure I've played around with a tree like this in our backyard.. I used to peel the bark off and liked feeling the exposed area with my hand because it's colder..

It's not bamboo. Maybe it is Jack's beanstalk! Hahahaha!
Unfortunately, this is the only photo I have of it. I didn't think the bark of Cacao could look like this? Since this is in the wilds of Madagacar, I don't think it could be madre de cacao.

Bamboo with a peeling skin? The magic beans of Jack and the beanstalk are really growing? It is different!!
