Scarlet macaw

Ara macao

Description:

You hear them before you see them! A large parrot with a creamy white, almost featherless face, bright red plumage covering most of its body, wings and long tail. Brilliant blue and yellow feathers on the lower wings. The bird's strong beak is adapted to breaking hard fruits and nuts found in the rainforest.

Habitat:

Neotropical forest from the Mexican east coast to the amazonas

Notes:

Spotted here at the Corcovado National Park, where they are often seen flying along the coast in pairs or in groups. In Costa Rica these beautiful birds have been threatened by habitat loss from rainforest destruction and heavy exploitation by the pet trade. They are now only seen on a few spots along the Pacific coast

Hi, hi, that's how a place in the middle of nowhere gets famous... Tromelin Island sounds like being from a novel from Tolkien...

And I think you know it already: Cartago must be a real big place. "All" Costa Rica pics are located in Cartago... Nevertheless: This parrot could be anyware in the world, it's still a fantastic species. However, best place is where it belongs to... Thanks for sharing!
