Garden Lizard

Calotes versicolor

Description:

A medium sized lizard with oval head and laterally compressed body. In the male the cheeks are muscular and swallown. Dorsal scales are large and pointed upward and backward. Brown or sand grey above, uniform or with a pattern of spots and bars on the back and sides.

Habitat:

It is an arboreal, diurnal lizard inhibiting gardens, hedges and scrublands. Usually slides to the back of the branch when noticed. Feeds on insects and ants. Sometimes takes on frogs and other small animals.
