Euplectrus sp.
The object of this spotting is the tiny wasp, only 2 mm long. It was interested in the fly above it, but left after a brief inspection. A male wasp of the Family Eulophidae.
Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.
The fly is a Dance Fly of the Family Hybotidae, see spotting: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/634....

Thank you John, so glad you saw this. And I'm glad it is one of your specialties!
Thank you Mark, you've given me nightmares with an image of spraying pheromones on my backlight sheet….. :)
Likes 'em big I guess :)
Hi Lauren
The wasp is another Euplectrus (Eulophidae). This one is a male. Interesting in that not many chalcid wasps come to black lights. The interesting in the fly would have been only in passing - this one would have been looking for a female of its own species.
You must have sprayed pheromones on this cloth Lauren? Incredible collection today.
