Aldabra giant tortoise

Aldabrachelys gigantea

Description:

Males can weigh up to 500 lbs or more. Females average around 300.

Habitat:

These guys and gals are living at the Tulsa Zoo. The zoo recently proclaimed they had a bunch of Aldabra babies too. Natively they live on the islands of Aldabra Atoll and are protected there from human influence and interaction.

Notes:

I loved these and spent some time today just watching them.

This would be a good spotting for the captive animal mission.

Cool. Thanks for sharing that. I'm new to Oklahoma but we love going to the zoo here in Tulsa as often as we can.

The big guy in the first 2 images is Rocket. He weighs approximately 600 lbs and is on loan from Sedgwick County Zoo in Wichita, KS. :-)
