Description:

This woodpecker has a habit of making a series of small pits on the bark of trees to feed on the tree sap. I was lucky to spot one in the act and photograph this unique behavior. Their diet also consists of insects like Beetles, grasshoppers, locusts, crickets, moths, caterpillars, and spiders.

Habitat:

Oak and Rhododendron mixed forest in the Garhwal Himalayan range in India.
