Ha, I have an iPhone 4 as well! There are loads of forum debates about autofocus problems with the camera... Haven't tried it on wildlife yet...

Not sure what type of camera you have Monkey-mind but this type of scene will be confusing for many autofocus system. You may want to try manual if you have this option. Or a one-point focus on the insect.
