Bufo bufo
The tadpole of the common toad or European toad, Bufo bufo. The tadpoles are aquatic and have oval bodies and long, vertically flattened tails. Eggs were laid in spring and there is a bit more to go until metamorphosis.
This tadpole (and dozens of others) was spotted at a pond which is a protected site for amphibian reproduction. The pond is a in a pre-alpine area at an altitude of 1000 m.
In the summer up to 100 toads can be seen around this pond...

I did the same too, I still remember the face of my mother when I arrived with a plastic bag full of tadpoles :)))
haha I did the same - and ditto, we live and we learn.
Thank you Claudia. I have more spottings from this pond, which is a very special place.
Thanks Elsa! As a kid I actually used to fish those out and raise them in an aquarium until they started jumping out (to my parents' horror...). These days I've learned better and leave them where they are!
Nice Pic !! and very interesting description and comments :)
This is a really cool shot! I saw some tadpoles the other day but didn't actually think to get a picture of them.. You've got a pretty cool collection of photos - and species :)
