A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
These elegant insects belong to 'Ephemeroptera' group of insects which translates into 'short-lived flyer' and emergence in large numbers in the summer months. Also known as 'upwing flies' because of their characteristic wings held aloft and do not fold over the body while at rest!
Decaying vegetation, streams, lakes or under the rocks.

Despite the name, this is not a fly. It belongs to the order Ephemeroptera, not Diptera. I've removed it from the Flies! mission for you :)
