Blue Grosbeak

Passerina caerulea

Description:

A large blue bird with a broad silver beak and cinnamon colored wingbars (male).

Habitat:

Tall grassy meadow, at base of an arroyo in a small desert canyon.

Notes:

Another fulfilling morning! I have been wanting to capture a Blue Grosbeak for some time now. The only other picture I have of one is of a female, and it's very blurry. Other times I've seen them in the field I've been ill-equipped or just too far away. So this morning's sighting was very much welcomed. It's always these little things that make my day! As far as this beautiful male, he didn't really give me many photo opportunities. I spent some time, maybe 20 minutes or so crouched in the tall grass in hopes he would return. He didn't, but I'm happy. It seems "branches and birds" go together in many of the bird photos I've taken. I've learned to accept it long ago :) Hope you enjoy the photos!
