Gallinule or Common Moorhen

Gallinula galeata

Description:

One of three baby moorhens. Only a few days old based in his development. Fuzzy black body, bald head. Super cute.

Habitat:

Pond.

Notes:

One if three baby moorhens near our Lemur Islands at the Palm Beach Zoo. He was carded for by his parents and older siblings. I've been watching this particular family all summer, and they have successfully raised a nearly a dozen chicks over their three clutches. I guess this year blessed them with an abundance of food and a shortage of predators.
