Eastern Newt, Subspecies-Red Spotted Eft

Notophtalmus viridescens

This one was only about 2-2.5" in length. Red-orange body, back & belly peppered with black spots. Larger red spots on back, lightly outlined with black or dark brown.

Ponds and lakes with dense underwater vegetation, backwaters of streams, swamps and neighboring damp woodlands.

All over the trail on my hike this morning.
