Eastern Newt, Subspecies-Red Spotted Eft

Notophtalmus viridescens

Description:

This one was only about 2-2.5" in length. Red-orange body, back & belly peppered with black spots. Larger red spots on back, lightly outlined with black or dark brown.

Habitat:

Ponds and lakes with dense underwater vegetation, backwaters of streams, swamps and neighboring damp woodlands.

Notes:

All over the trail on my hike this morning.
