Spotting

Description:

Topminnow or killifish? with light golden body with a black spot on posterior end of single dorsal fin. Unlike the topminnows I've seen the dorsal fin begins right above the pectoral fins as oppsed to beginning at or slightly anterior to the anal fin. I'm stumped.

Habitat:

Was found in shallow water (approx. 5 m in depth) under rock overhangs and eaves.

Sorry it's taken so long to respond, KEKoepp. Thank you for so much for commenting. It's marine. After seeing more of them this summer, as they get older they seem to take on a rusty color - if they are in fact the adults of the one pictured above.

It doesn't look like a topminnow or killifish to me. Looks like a Centrarchid (like bass, crappie, etc). Freshwater or marine?
