Moss Rose

Portulaca

Description:

These were grown from seed and were sold as multicolor pack. These flowers close up if the sun is not out, so nightly. If it rains they also close. They look like cactus plants minus the thorns, so they are a succulent. I grow these against a retaining wall and in the centers of the blocks in that retaining wall. They grow from a seed with a center stalk that gets about 4 inches tall, then it starts sending out many more branches. It's hard to tell one plant from another, so there may be multiple color flowers on one plant, because I cannot tell. They are annuals and are considered drought tolerant.
