Native Turmeric or Cape York Lily

Curcuma australasica

Description:

This was in my grandmother's yard. She came up to visit today (July 4th, 2011) and identified it. She says it is in the Ginger family.

Habitat:

The bulbs were purchased in Atlanta, GA, and planted in Valparaiso, FL. They lived two years down there, and did not make it a 3rd year. Either they needed a more cold dormant season, or got too cold. Wikipedia says they are from Queensland, Australia.
