Hedgehog fungus, maybe?

Habitat:

A fallen tree in the woods - lots of maple, hackberry, etc. nearby.

Notes:

My ecology class found this on a field lab to Wegerzyn where we were conducting plant transects. Thanks to Gina9210 and Tim Sage for help with the ID!
