Nene geese

Branta sandvicensis

Description:

This was one of the luckiest sightings of my life! we were going up to Haleakala volcano mountain when we saw this couple in the side of the road. Nene geese look a lot like the canadian geese but they are endemic of the hawaian islands and there is not so many individuals left in the wild!

Habitat:

Volcano mountains in Hawaii. I have seen a documentary where the babies have to jump and sometimes left themselves literally drop down the mountains to follow up their parents to the pastures below the parts where they are born (no wonder why there are little left..although the main impact probably comes from humans bringing predators into the islands).
