Snake handling is pretty risky business, especially if its a venomous snake. I've never heard docile and copperhead in the same sentence really unless there was a "not" in the middle. I'm sure in Tennessee the emergency rooms have plenty of anti venom for this species. They do in Florida too. It's a common enough snake in the south.

That is one big copperhead, it appears to be pregnant, they have live babies in Indiana in August. I see why it appears so large the snake is close to the camera. Nice photo, one of my favorite snakes.

I was told to watch out for snakes while hiking as a child and that a cucumber scent was possibly a nest of copperhead snakes, especially near rocks.

All snakes has musk glands, and all snake musk really stinks (especially cottomouth musk.) The Copperheads musk isn't that bad, relatively speaking...and this guy didn't even musk me. But other ones that have musked me do have a scent kind of like cucumbers...but not any that I would want to put in a salad.
