It is a species of bamboo aclimated to the Pittsburgh climate I bought from Phipps Conservatory and planted about 15 years ago. Some shoots have grown 32' high.

It must be brought from either Caribbean or South American countries.

Yes young plant of bamboo. For thickness like 4" diameter it took 15-20 years.
