Description:

Die Berg-Flockenblume (Centaurea montana) ist eine Pflanzenart der Gattung Flockenblumen (Centaurea) in der Unterfamilie der Carduoideae aus der Familie der Korbblütler (Asteraceae).

Habitat:

Die Berg-Flockenblume ist in den Gebirgen Mittel- und Südeuropas zwischen einer Höhe von 500 und 2200 Metern NN anzutreffen. Sie findet sich sehr selten in Norddeutschland und Ostbayern, im übrigen Deutschland ist sie mäßig bis weit verbreitet. In Österreich häufig in der obermontanen bis subalpinen Höhenstufe in den Bundesländern, Ober-, Niederösterreich, Steiermark, Kärnten, Salzburg Tirol und Vorarlberg. Als Standort werden Hochstaudenfluren, Fettwiesen und frische, lichte Wälder bevorzugt.

Lean close and see if you detect a fragrance. Some people can--it's sweet. This flower goes by many names, including Bachelor button. Weed-haters call it Montana knapweed, a Meditarranean cultivar that's escaped gardens in the western US. It does "volunteer" pretty easily if the ground around it is clear, but I don't find it out-competes the natives.

I think I have a similar flower on ProjectNoah, not knowing what it is, so if you find out, please let me know.
