American Toad

Anaxyrus americanus

The American toad can reach a length of approximately 2-4 inches (5-11 cm), and is generally tan, brown, or yellow in coloration. However, some toads (including this individual) may also be brick red.

The American toad is one of the most widespread amphibians in North America. It can be found throughout the eastern U.S., from northern Maine down to the states of South Carolina and Georgia. This individual toad was spotted alongside the forested trails of Bushkill Falls, Pennsylvania.

Diet: American toads are insectivorous, meaning that they primarily feed on small invertebrates, including beetles, ants, and earthworms.
