Bombus griseocollis
Very common in the state of Illinois. The black and yellow of this large bee makes it very recognizable. When feeding is attracted to vetch, clover, and legumes. The workers are especially drawn to clover and the males prefer daisy-type flowers and goldenrod.
These bees form small colonies of less than 50 workers. They seek dry places above the ground. The works will defend the colony very aggressively.
