Black Vulture

Coragyps atratus

Habitat:

Open areas within forested landscapes. Typically nest and roost in wooded areas and soar above open areas. Also seen in urban and suburban areas.

Notes:

These charismatic fellows are always in this particular area amusing guests with their pecking order antics and barks as well as annoying the guests by scratching, pooping, and tearing at the rubber parts of the cars in the parking lot. Today it was a bit of a gloomy morning at he Everglades threatening to rain on top of being a bit cool and breezy. Not many animals were out and about and it was unusually desolate. The local vulture gang was about all that was to be seen, so I took the opportunity to attempt some portraits of them.

Thanks everyone. They were pretty much the only ones around on this particular morning. I just sat there on a little stone wall and they all gathered around me. They have great personalities and I find them kind of humorous.
