Blue-footed booby

Sula nebouxii

81 cm long and 1.5 kg. Amazing to see them fish. They bullet rocket toward the water and close their wings only when almost hitting it. Their name of course comes from the color of their feet and because of them being very tame.

Rocky shores in the Galapagos and other places.

the beauty of Galapagos is that animals are not afraid of humans and you can approach them..the rangers there are very careful that people does not cross the line and bothers the animals..they do an excelent job in preserving the natural environment in these islands!

Many thanks! I have no idea why such colorful feet. And there are also the red footed ones..may be is meant for sensing health before mating. A theory for the long colorful peacock´s tail is that it shows females the male is healthy to mate with. Males with parasites or sick may not have beautiful feathers so is a way to assess the genetic pool of the individual you choose for mating. In boobies both male and female have the same display but perhaps it tells each sex how healthy the other bird is, before choosing as mating pair...
