Spotting

Description:

Smooth, brown, grapefruit size fruits on the trunk. I know figs fruit from the trunk but I've never seen a Ficus like this.

Habitat:

rainforest

I spotted this tree in Ankasa National park.

I guess that's a possibility. To me they looked too perfect to be galls. Also the small indentation in them makes me think they are a fruit.

Yes, I believe they are the fruits. As for eating them to survive, I'm not sure about that. Not all fruits are edible. It would have to be a pretty rough situation to experiment with eating unknown fruits.
