Tawny Frogmouth

Podargus strigoides

Description:

Males and females look alike and are up to 50 cm long. It can weigh up to 680 grams. They have yellow eyes and a wide beak topped with a tuft of bristly feathers.They make loud clacking sounds with their beaks when aggressive and can emit a reverberating booming call.

Habitat:

relatively common throughout the Australian Mainland, found in a variety of habitats and even urban environments. this one was seen in a rural property in Southern NSW

Notes:

Frogmouths are Nightjars, not owls.

@Nadi - glad you liked it! This was a juvenile Tawny putting on its "scary face". It did this every day when I went in to feed it! (It is now back in the wild).
