Chipping Sparrow

Spizella passerina

Description:

“Chipping sparrows are small, delicate, active sparrows with a distinctive bright chestnut crown, bordered by white above their eyes. They have black eyestripes and a buffy white chin. Their back and wings are streaked black and brown. The bill is black above and creamy pink or yellow below.” -www.biokids.umich.edu

Habitat:

Chipping sparrows can be found in open woodlands, forests, or forest edges especially coniferous forests, suburban areas, urban parks, orchards, and other human-modified landscapes. They like forests with shrubby.

Notes:

One way to identify a Chipping sparrow is by the fact that most of them look like puffballs because they puff out their feathers which makes them round. Also, the males have a distinctive red streak on their heads.
