St Andrews Cross Spider

Argiope keyserlingi

Description:

Medium size spider with bold yellow stripes. Common along the Australian East Coast. Usually creates a big X on the web, which is where it gets its name from.

Habitat:

Often found at head height (so I found) between trees or man-made structures.

Notes:

According to the books, the species around Cairns should be Argiope aetherea, but this looks much more like A. keyserlingi
