Just like you added this to the Lost Ladybug Project mission, you could add this spotting to the Beetles of Texas mission as well. There is no commitment to being deluged by beetles. Many are tiny and non-menacing like the ladybug...

I used a macro lens, so it looks huge, but it was about 2-3 mm long at most. It was walking up the side of our barn.
Like you, I'm not crazy about bugs - if I see a cockroach, I look for wasp spray so I can shoot it from a great distance!
I would but I'm kind of terrified of bugs. D:
