Camponotus rasilis
They are a large species of carpenter ant that makes nests in sand and gravel. These ones were feeding on a Mediterranean house gecko, (Hemidactylus turcicus). The gecko probably fell from a wall and died while ants started to eat it. The ants have black abdomens and red head and thorax. The gecko had pink and tan skin with lots of black dots and spots.
Semi-urban, Fort Worth, Texas.
The ants seen in these pictures are workers taking bits of meat back to the nest. The Mediterranean house gecko is an invasive species in Texas, it came from Mediterranean and spread to the Southern U.S.
