Paperbark maple

Acer griseum

Description:

Small tree. Distinctive red bark, peeling like a paper birch. The leaves are in sets of three leaflets. Opposite branching. Leaves have asymmetrical coarsely-toothed margins. Seedpods are typical of maple tree 'helicopter' or samara keys. 2-3 wings [bracts] joined at about a 35 degree angle.

Habitat:

City garden. (Native to western China)
