Those varieties are easily propagated...in spring they have hundreds of little sprouts if the soil around the parent plant is soft like sand or leaf mulch. If you don't want to pull the little sprouts out, they mow easily until they are about 6 inches tall. If you want to make a hedge of them, you can pull up the little sprouts and nurture them in pots until bigger, or just dig a small trench and plant them about 12 inches apart. Within the 1st season, they will be about 2-3 feet tall. Cut the top leading branch. Leaves fall off in winter, in next spring, they will take off from old growth and you will get bushy plant as a hedge. I've seen hedges made of several colors of Altheas and they inter-grow and flowers look like multi-colored bushes. Very cool looking & cheap. Mower on the edges of each side will keep it from spreading.
