Unknown Spotting ( Dragonfly )

Description:

Dragonfly: I went outside, and I saw a dragonfly, resting on a wall, on the outside of my house. It's rear wings, was one and one eighth of an inch long, and five eights of an inch wide. It's front wings, was one and one eighth of an inch long, and one fourth of an inch wide. It had two, large, reddish brown compound eyes. It had yellow and black coloring, on top of its thorax. The sides of its thorax, had black and yellow coloring to it too. The segmented abdomen, also had black and yellow coloring, to it. On the top ends of each wing, was a black retangular box. This black box, is called a 'stigma'. There is an orange patch, on both rear wings, and there is also an orange patch, on both front wings. The abdomen is segmented (S1 to S10 ). It has six jointed legs, and two short antennae. It also has a head, thorax, and an abdomen. The transparent wings, has a lot of veins on them. Both rear wings, had three black lines, running horizontally, from the abdomen, to the top of the rear wings, about one fourth of an inch long. ( at the orange patch ) Phylum: Arthropoda Class: Insecta Order: Odonata Odonata, is an order of carnivorous insects, encompassing the dragonflies and the damselflies. Dragonflies, are generally larger, and perch with there wings held out to the sides. Damselflies, have slender bodies, and hold there wings, over the body at rest. These insects characteristically have large rounded heads, covered mostly by well-de veloped, compound eyes, legs that facilitate catching prey ( other insects ) in flight, two pairs of long, transparent wings that move independently, and elongated abdomens. They have three ocelli and short antennae. The mouth parts are on the underside of the head, and include simple chewing mandibles, in the adult.

Habitat:

Dragonflies, are found all over the world. Immature dragonflies, live in freshwater. They are most abundant and diverse in slow-moving freshwater, that has no fish ( small streams and ponds ), but can be found in many shallow freshwater habitats. Adult dragonflies, often stay near water, but sometimes travel away from water, while hunting or on migration. They are fast fliers, so they tend to hunt in open areas, not in thick trees or other vegetation. Dragonflies, reside primarily near bodies of freshwater ( such as small streams and ponds ), that do not contain fish. However, they may also appear in shallow freshwater habitats and take up residence, along adjacent shorelines. Dragonflies, leave on daily excursions, to hunt in fields, meadows, and other open areas, that are void of thick trees and vision-impairing vegetations.
