A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
If this is some sort of grass spider, it's unlike any I've ever seen. It doesn't have the normal markings on its cephalothorax. It was fairly large, best guess body size was at least 1 inch & solid gray all over. To see a higher resolution image of this spider visit me on Flickr at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/pixygiggles...

Thanks for joining pixygiggles! Please feel free to add any other Tennessee spiders in your collection.
This doesn't look like any of the local species of lynx spiders.
Was this spotted near water by any chance? It does also look like the fishing spiders (Dolomedes) http://bugguide.net/node/view/84580
Thanks for the invite, KarenL. I'll happily add this to the mission.
LarsKorb, I'll do some research on lynx spiders and see if this could be a possibility. I'll also see if I have any more photos in my archive of this one because I know the eyes and eye placement can be helpful in identification as well. I do remember thinking when I photographed this spider that if he had been in my hand, legs and all would have covered my entire palm.
The coned abdomen and the way it folds it's legs is typical for the family of lynx spiders.
Please consider adding this to new Spiders of Tennessee mission - http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/9135...
