Leopard

Panthera pardus

Notes:

The highlight of the trip. This single leopard moved from tree to tree in the late afternoon. During the night it made a kill near our tent, a Bushbuck which was left in a tree, and the next night it come back and ate or moved the carcass. Moremi Game Reserve, east of Okavango Delta, Botswana.

Thanks for adding notes to your spottings Lars, and congratulations, this excellent leopard series as been chosen as out Spotting of the Day:

"Spotting of the Day! Solitary, secretive and often going undetected, leopards (Panthera pardus) are known for their climbing ability, and can sometimes be observed dragging their kills up trees or resting on tree branches. Leopards are widely distributed throughout Africa and Asia, with nine recognized subspecies. However, populations have become reduced and fragmented, and leopards are now extirpated from large portions of their historic range. They are globally assessed as Vulnerable by the IUCN. The southern part of Africa appears to have the healthiest leopard populations of its entire range".
