Hummingbird

Description:

This time I used a slower shutter speed and captured motion like I was hoping. I waiting the little guy out for 20 min to get two shots. I also used the pop-up flash in rear sync mode to get the shadowed silhouettes

Hmm, I think maybe you looked up the wrong lens. It's a super great lens but it's not 1/10th of that price!

John..that lens is crazy expensive! Retails for USD $23,660. WOW...on the photo ...on the shot - it's amazing! But I don't think I'll be adding that lens my camera bag in this lifetime. You must be a great successful professional photographer? I am still learning how to use my camera and am inconsistent on getting the settings to shoot like I want...but that's a good thing with this website as an outlet.

Thanks Heather for the great comments. Here's the info on the shot: Shot in Manual mode. I was using a Carl Zeiss 135mm f1/8 lens. Shutterspeed was 1/160 and aperture was set at f5/6. I was standing about 6 feet away. I also used the pop-up flash which was set in rear sync mode. (this is when the flash doesn't fire until the shutter curtain is almost closed thus letting the ambient light expose correctly) The flash froze the bird but not until after some exposure had already taken place. Hence the shadowy blur in the shot.

Maybe spotting of the day material here. The sister shot is excellent too! What shutter speed did you use? How close were you to the flower & bird when you shot this? What kind of lens? It is a great series of photos.
