Brown Pelican

Pelecanus occidentalis

Description:

The smallest of the pelicans. These birds can be seen diving for fish from the air and catching them in the pouch below their bill.

Habitat:

Migratory. This pelican was spotted in the coastal tropical south along the gulf coast of FL.

Notes:

The brown pelican is protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act in the USA.

I think it expected to be fed for posing. I assured him that I didn't have anything to feed him and he stopped opening his bill. It was rather intimidating, but made for a nice shot.
