Thanks so much for the info Gina! And please don't feel under pressure to ID the moths... though I certainly do appreciate any help you can give! :-)

AnnvanWijgerden I apologized by not getting back to you soon I am up the walls. Yes I will try my best with the rest of the moth. And as well Aloa lactinea does not have the same characteristics as the Walker's Frother. Only that these moth are carnivorous!

Thanks Krossculture!

Does anyone know if this moth has the same characteristics as the Walker's Frother (re. poisonous ooze and sizzling sound)?

Annvanwijgerden, I believed this is neither Amerila rubripes nor Aloa marginata both of these species are Australian moth, Aloa lactinea is the one your looking for.

Thanks Christiane and Nicole!
And thanks for the tip Dandoucette... Since these moths don't seem to be around at the moment, I'll have to forget my 'test the ooze and the sizzling' plan (whew!) and do a bit more internet surfing instead...

I'm leaning more towards Ashish's suggestion. Those black lines aren't found on them all the time and they have that distinctive red edge on their wings,

Thanks Dangermouse and Alice! ... Maybe I need to 'mock-threaten' (!) one to see if it's a Walker's Frother after all...
