Red lionfish (dark variation)

Pterois volitans

Description:

Dark variation of the red lionfish. Yet another spotting of these guys. Very common coral reef predator native to indo-pacific reefs. Ambush predator. Easily recognisable by their greatly elongated and ornamental dorsal and pectoral fins. The fins have venomous tips, like most of the scorpionfish family.

Habitat:

Coral reefs

Notes:

Highly territorial species. This one was charging towards me and my camera.

I've heard of this, huge problem in florida and rest of Caribbean too. Very sad. People getting rid of their overgrown pets the 'easy' way.
