Silver Gull (juvenile)

Chroicocephalus novaehollandiae


This is a Juvenile Pacific Gull. The babies have a vastly different plumage to the adults! They have a smudgy brown colour on their heads. Down across the back and wings is mottled colours of a darker brown and light gray/pale blue. The beaks of the young birds are a dark brown or black and their legs are brown - both of which will turn red when they become an adult.


They have a diverse range of habitats but always around water. These were spotted at a wharf out over the sea.
