Red-headed bush cricket

Phyllopalpus pulchellus

Description:

Also known as the handsome trig. The black appendages are mouth parts. I haven't figured out yet why some of these crickets have dark eyes and some light eyes; perhaps an age-related factor?

Habitat:

Jordan Lake woods

Notes:

Noah Ranger Eric Eaton has a nice blog on them: http://bugeric.blogspot.com/2014/02/red-...
