Thank you for both the common and scientific names, Malcom, it was spotted in Galapagos Islands.

Your bird looks like a Galapagos Lava Heron, you say Ecuador but the map pointer is in the middle of the ocean - is that the Galapagos Islands? If so the scientific name is Butorides sundevalli.
