Barn Swallow

Hirundo rustica

Description:

A swallow species found around the world. They prefer open areas such as fields and pastures where hunting for flying insects on the wing is easier. This strongly migratory species often builds nests under bridges and the eaves of buildings (like barns). This individual was part of a mixed nesting colony with cliff swallows underneath a windsail dock.
