Devil's Coach-horse Beetle

Ocypus olens

Description:

The beetle is about 20 - 30 mm long and black. If the beetle feels attacked it raises its long and uncovered abdomen (see the picture).

Habitat:

forests, parks and gardens; almost everywhere in Europe.

The picture was taken by my son.

this is a great pic!! The beetle does almost look horse like,with its straight back!
